About Molarity

Molarity (M) is a measure of the concentration of a solute in a solution. It is defined as the number of moles of solute dissolved per liter of solution.

The Formula:

M = n / V

M = mass / (MW x V)

  • M = Molarity (mol/L)
  • n = Moles of solute
  • MW = Molecular weight (g/mol)
  • V = Volume (L)

Applications:

  • - Laboratory solution preparation
  • - Chemical reaction calculations
  • - Pharmaceutical dosing
  • - Buffer preparation in biology
  • - Industrial quality control

Tip: Provide any 3 values to calculate the 4th. Remember that molarity is based on total solution volume, not solvent volume alone.
