Find factors, factor pairs, and prime factorization
About Factors
Factors are numbers that divide another number without leaving a remainder. Every number has at least two factors: 1 and itself. Prime numbers have exactly two factors.
Key Concepts:
- • Factors: Numbers that divide evenly
- • Factor Pairs: Two numbers that multiply to the original
- • Prime Factors: Factors that are prime numbers
- • Prime Factorization: Breaking down into prime factors
- • Perfect Squares: Have odd number of factors
Common Applications:
- • Finding common denominators
- • Simplifying fractions
- • Number theory problems
- • Cryptography and security
- • Mathematical puzzles
Factorization Method:
We find factors by testing divisibility from 1 to the square root of the number. Prime factorization is found by repeatedly dividing by the smallest prime factors. The ladder shows this division process visually.
