Area Calculator

The following are calculators to evaluate the area of seven common shapes. The area of more complex shapes can usually be obtained by breaking them down into their aggregating simple shapes, and totaling their areas. This calculator is especially useful for estimating land area.

About Area Calculations

Area is the measure of the amount of space inside a two-dimensional shape. Different shapes have different formulas for calculating their areas.

Area Formulas:

  • Rectangle: A = l × w
  • Triangle: A = ½ × b × h (Heron's formula)
  • Trapezoid: A = ½ × (b₁ + b₂) × h
  • Circle: A = π × r²
  • Sector: A = ½ × θ × r²
  • Ellipse: A = π × a × b
  • Parallelogram: A = b × h

Common Applications:

  • • Land area measurement
  • • Floor plan calculations
  • • Painting and flooring estimates
  • • Agricultural planning
  • • Construction projects
  • • Real estate valuation

Unit Conversions:

• 1 m² = 10,000 cm²
• 1 m² = 1,000,000 mm²
• 1 ft² = 144 in²
• 1 yd² = 9 ft²
• 1 acre = 43,560 ft²
• 1 hectare = 10,000 m²

Tips:

  • • Ensure all measurements use the same units
  • • For triangles, use Heron's formula for accuracy
  • • For sectors, angle can be in degrees or radians
  • • Complex shapes can be broken into simple shapes
  • • Always double-check your measurements
